“The Joy of Seeing”
Our “Joy of Seeing” photography workshops / retreats go back to the fundamentals of seeing with a camera and rediscovering the beauty in everyday things and moments.
We understand that inspiration comes in part from being in a fresh and wonderful place. But our workshops provide much more than a guided tour; they are about your development as an artist, about finding your self-expression and artistic freedom.
We provide you with a space where you can invest in yourself and your photographic individuality. It will be a time for renewal of spirit and fresh outlooks; we will walk, explore, relax, socialise and share – and take a proper holiday, with great food and company.
By immersing ourselves in our surroundings and fully experiencing where we are, photographs will flow naturally.
Our mindful, photographer-centred approach allows you to see the world with fresh eyes and without judgement or preconception of what “good” photography should be. Not only will you make great photographs, images that are yours; you will come away with a new-found confidence in yourself and your photography.

Who Will Benefit?
As we work with you both one to one and in group sessions, our workshops are suitable for everyone from relative beginners to seasoned enthusiasts.
For beginners: you probably have an advantage because your eyes are fresh. Although it helps to have some knowledge of your camera, we will help you develop your seeing and to learn the principles of visual design and camera control as you go.
For enthusiasts: a fresh outlook could be the catalyst for a whole new phase in your work. Our “Joy of Seeing” approach could be the perfect creative tonic.
Our Workshop Approach
Wherever you go, there you are.
Our workshop approach is founded on mindfulness – bringing conscious attention to the present moment – and on the fundamentals of visual design in images. We encourage self expression and letting go of preconceptions of what ‘good’ photography might be.
And we provide individual coaching in a group setting.
Your lead coach is Ken Scott, a highly-experienced photographer well known for his images of mountain landscapes and light, and moments of everyday perception.
Ken is self-taught and has followed a responsive and mindful approach to photography for thirty-five years. He has been making at least one image every day for over ten years – 3650 consecutive days – giving him an unparalleled insight into the ups and downs of creativity and the joy to be had in seeing with fresh eyes.
Ken is a well-respected presenter, writer and appraiser. He also coaches in several disciplines, including photography, sport and business.
